Patio Grilled Ham and Cabbage Dinner
Skinny Cooks

Ingredients:
6 cabbage wedges Melted butter Garlic powder or garlic salt Pepper Grilled Ham Slices 1/2-inch or thicker 2 cups brown sugar 1/2 cup lemon juice 1/2 cup horseradish 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions:
Place each cabbage wedge on a piece of aluminum foil. Drizzle or brush with melted butter. Sprinkle on some garlic powder or garlic salt and add a grind or two of fresh black pepper. Wrap each wedge tightly in the foil. Place the wraps on a hot grill and grill for about 30 minutes, or until the wedges are softened. Remove from grill and set aside, still wrapped, while you grill the ham.

Use a sharp knife to make some cuts on the top and bottom sides of the ham slices. This lets the sauce baste deeper for flavor in every bite.

In a heat-safe bowl, mix together the brown sugar, lemon juice, horseradish and pepper flakes. Stir to get evenly distributed. Cover the bowl with foil and set it on the grill for five or 10 minutes to get it warm. Stir again.

Bend the ham slices so the cuts open up. Lay the slices on the grill and ladle or “mop” on some of the sauce. Mop on more of the sauce during the five or 10 minutes the first side of the ham is grilling. Turn the slices and ladle sauce on the grilled top. Repeat mopping a time or two while the bottom side of the ham slices are grilling.

Serve the grilled ham and a wedge of grilled cabbage to each person. They can unwrap the cabbage wedges when they’re served and dig right in. This is a grilling experience everyone will enjoy.
