GROVE CITY, Ohio — Don G. and Maxine Mitchell established JD Equipment in Plain City, Ohio, in 1982. Today, it is owned and operated by Jeff and Don K. Mitchell – hence the “JD” in the name – and employs about 220 full- and part-time employees.

In 1983, the store was moved to London, Ohio. The London store was renovated and updated in 2010. During almost three decades of service to farmers, homeowners and commercial businesses, it has been a John Deere dealer for farm equipment, lawn care equipment and compact construction equipment at six central Ohio locations. In that time, JD Equipment has seen tremendous growth.

By 1999, JD Equipment had acquired Ohio stores in Washington Court House, building a new store there in 2006 and adding a new building in 2010, and in Wilmington. That store was renovated and had an addition put on in 2002.

In 2000, JD Equipment acquired a store in Lancaster, and built a new store there in 2005. The growth of the business continued with the acquisition of a store in Marion in 2007, followed by the addition of Columbus in 2008. It also added a store in Hilliard in 2010.

In 2009, JD Equipment moved its administrative offices to a new location in Grove City, along with a new building for JD Power Systems. JD Power Systems was formed in 2005 as a division of JD Equipment and in 2008, became a wholly owned subsidiary known as JD Power Systems, LLC.

Since the beginning, JD Equipment has strived to meet the needs of their customers by providing parts and service to back up a quality line of products. Sales, service and parts departments’ employees are thoroughly trained to ensure the highest level of service.

The business stocks more than $30 million of equipment and in excess of $5 million of parts inventory to ensure its ability to meet the needs of customers quickly and efficiently. A service department backs this up with factory-trained technicians, many of whom have earned “Masters” certification.

Farm equipment is the bread and butter of JD Equipment. It is the largest John Deere dealer in its region because of vast inventory, experienced, knowledgeable staff and their commitment to serving farmers for the future. It has invested in people, products and an RTK network to support precision farming – JD representatives have completed training on the newest technologies, including Tier 4 engines.

JD Equipment offers a full product lineup for residential and large property owners, including service and parts for seeding, mowing, grounds care and snow removal. In addition, when the work is done, it offers utility vehicles for fun. It also sells products, service and parts for equipment manufactured by Hustler and Stihl.

JD’s commercial product line includes products from Alamo and BOSS, backed by on-site support with a full staff of trained mechanics and service trucks.

JD Power systems offers a full line of standby power generation units to serve every need. JD Power sells and services everything from portable gasoline-powered inverters to stationary residential and institutional generators. It is an authorized distributor for Generac, Stateline, Mitsubishi and Hyundai generators and components.
