68 bulls from five breeds and six states in IBEP test
BEDFORD, Ind. — The 66th performance test of the Indiana Beef Evaluation Program finished on Sept. 20 at the Feldun-Purdue Ag Center in Bedford. A total of 68 bulls from five breeds completed the test.

The bulls were entered by 33 seedstock producers from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. Bulls were fed a moderate-energy ration during the 125-day test and daily gain for the entire group was 3.85 pounds. The bulls are in ideal body condition for use this fall or next spring.

This is an excellent set of bulls that offer a range of performance for the economically important traits. Angus bull No. 43 will enter the ring first. He was the top performance indexing bull with an index of 122.7, and the bull’s EPDs rank him in the upper 25 percent of the breed for weaning and yearling weights as well as maternal milk production of his daughters and $-Feedlot index.
The bull ranks in the upper half of the Angus breed for direct and maternal calving ease, as well as $-Weaning and $-Beef indexes. The bull was sired by Connealy Reflection and is owned by Ramsey Angus Farm of Frankfort, Ind.

Ramsey Angus Farm has a second bull in the sale that is also sired by Connealy Reflection. Angus No. 44 is the fifth bull to sell.
Those seeking a high carcass merit bull might want to check out Angus bull No. 42, who will be the fourth bull to sell. His EPDs are in the top quartile of the breed for $-Yield Grade and the top half of the breed for $-Quality Grade, resulting in a top quartile ranking for $-Grid and $-Beef indexes.

He was sired by LD Redirect 11 and owned by Kiata Farms, Hamilton, Ohio. Angus bull No. 41, also sired by LD Redirect 11 and from Kiata Farms, is the second bull to sell.

Other excellent bulls selling early in the sale include Angus No. 30 sired by SS Objective T510 0T26 from Powell Farms, Worthington, Ind.; Simmental No. 3, the top performance indexing Simmental in the test, sired by SVF/NJC Built Right N48 from Bill Washburn, Olney, Ill.; and Angus No. 34 sired by GAR Predestined from Highland Angus, Perrysville, Ind.

Cattle producers looking for bulls that will add pounds, quality and value to their calves will not want to miss the sale on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Springville Feeder Auction, Springville, Ind. Bulls will sell immediately following the Springville Feeder Auction Association’s bred heifer sale which starts at 2:00 PM.
