Records set at Indiana farm machinery sale
DANA, Ind. — During a Jan. 12 farm equipment auction for Mound Farms, Inc., the Moss Auction team reported record-breaking sales of a few choice pieces of farm equipment.

“It was a cold, wintry day in west central Indiana for the three-hour farm equipment auction,” said Matthew Moss, auctioneer from the Moss Auction team.

Selling for new record auction prices at this sale were the following: a 2008 Kinze model 3650 12/24 row planter with liquid fertilizer with less than 3,300 acres of use sold for $86,500, a 2004 John Deere model 8420 front-wheel assist tractor with 1,432 hours sold for $144,000 and a 1998 John Deere model 8100 two-wheel drive tractor with only 1,616 hours sold for $72,000. These selling prices were confirmed by Greg Peterson, know as “Machinery Pete” who tracks auction selling prices of farm equipment via his website www.machinerypete.com

Even with the very cold windy day the auction registered over 300 bidders from Indiana, Illinois, New York, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky and Alabama, according to Moss.

Kurtz actions Illinois estate for 1.3 million

CARMI, Ill. — The Edward Williams Heirs contracted Kurtz Auction & Realty Company to sell their 266 acres in White County in southern Illinois near Carmi.
This acreage involved four non-contiguous tracts of mostly gently rolling farm land.  Improvements included an older home, shed and barn all contributing little to the value of Tract 1.
The property sold for a total of $1,301,800 for an average price per acre of $4,894 per acre.  Here is a breakdown on each tract:
•Tract 1: 120 acres almost all gently rolling cropland $684,000 or $5,700 per acre
•Tract 2: 70 acres with about 60 acres of gently rolling cropland $343,000 or $4,900 per acre
•Tract 3: 36 acres, half cropland and half dry season cropland $82,800 or $2,300 per acre
•Tract 4: 40 acres of cropland with access by way of an easement $192,000 or $4,800 per acre
A crowd of about 120 farmers, business people and investors from Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky gathered at the gymnasium at the Methodist Church in Enfield, Ill. to bid on this land. Kurtz used the “choice –by-the-acre” method of bidding.  Buyers included business people, investors and neighboring land owners.
