A round barn landmark, built in 1903 near Hagerstown on the Dalton Pike, on the farm of Charles Powell, was destroyed by a blaze. Large selection of Hamp boars and 25 open gilts. New bloodlines for past customers, sold by John L. Fox of Shelbyville, Ind.

The Knightstown Locker Plant has reopened for business at a new location and with all new facilities. Mr. And Mrs. Don Jackson, who operated the plant, formerly located in Knightstown on Carey Street, have built a new building on their farm, located one mile north of U.S. Highway 40 on County Road 575 W.

Ohio was one of eight states recently named by the National 4-H Council to receive a $1,000 grant for vision education projects, said Jim Helt, associate state 4-H leader, The Ohio State University.

Purdue Royal Livestock Showmanship winners for this year’s event were Stephen Rodibaugh, freshman from Rensselaer, Ind., first place among swine showmen; Scott Trennepohl, senior from Middletown, first place among cattle showmen; and Frank McDaniel, junior from Manilla, first place among sheep showmen. Rodibaugh won the Grand Champion Showmanship drive overall.
Thomas Conzad, freshman from Indianapolis, won the sheep shearing contest. Jennifer Ann Daniels, sophomore from Frankfort, was crowned Queen of the Royal and won the novice award by showing crossbred gilt. All are current students in the Purdue University School of Ag.

Purdue’s Eight-Week Winter Ag School recently honored 58 men and four women at graduation ceremonies. Randall Beer, Milford, received the prestigious Farm Credit Assoc. Outstanding Student Award and the Parker Outstanding Student Award in general agriculture. Todd Miller, Francesville, received the Heinold Outstanding Student Award in animal agriculture, and Todd Saul, Sharpsville, received the Beck Hybrids Outstanding Student Award in plant agriculture.

Highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease reached a huge national park in southwestern England, and France said that tests on a sampling of sheep imported from Britain into France and slaughtered within the last two days suggested they, too, may have had the disease.

Jungle Jim’s covers four acres, 180,000 square feet of ethnic foods, with customers coming from all over the Midwest.
