USDA predicts farmers will plant this spring the smallest acreage since World War I.

Hog slaughter is running about 15 percent below last year, and hog prices are expected to be higher.

The Senate Agriculture Committee has approved a bill raising the Soil Bank corn planting allotment from 37.3 million acres to 51 million, according to USDA Secretary Benson.

A Purdue University ag economist predicts that wheat prices for 1957 will be above the government loan rate of $2 per bushel.

A new bulk fertilizer terminal will open in Southern Indiana. The Olin Corp. and Port Aurora, Inc. terminal will have a storage capacity of approximately 6,000 tons of ammonium phosphate fertilizers and will be located in Aurora, near the Ohio River.

Having discontinued farming, the following personal property of Henry Breeding of Bartholomew County, Ind., will sell his farm machinery, cattle, hog equipment and miscellaneous April 7, starting at 10:30, through the auction service of Herman Strakis, Indianapolis, and Don Smock of Whiteland.

The USDA has banned imports of used farm equipment from countries with confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth disease. They also have banned the import of livestock and uncooked livestock products from the United Kingdom, the European Union and Argentina.
