INDIANA
Oct. 31: A public hearing has been set to review a petition for the establishment of an Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Program and Council that would promote consumer awareness and sales of sheep products at the 4-H Community Center Building at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, 1009 W. Third St., Rochester, Ind. The petition will begin at 1 p.m. EST. Nov. 7-8: Military veterans interested in establishing a career or small business in agriculture can learn more about their options and how to get started at a workshop at the Beck Agricultural Center, 4540 U.S. 52 West, West Lafayette, Ind. Nov. 1: Ohio State University’s Organic Food and Farming Education and Research (OFFER) program is inviting farmers, scientists, and anyone else interested in organic food and farming to attend its autumn symposium titled “Future Directions for Organic Agriculture Research” at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center’s Shisler Conference Center in Wooster, Ohio. Nov. 2-3: “Resetting the American Dinner Table: How Entrepreneurial Farmers Can Create a Healthy Nation and a Sustainable Food System” is the theme of the annual conference and fundraising event of the Innovative Farmers of Ohio at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Nov. 10: Ohio State University Extension is hosting a community education workshop on shale energy development at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center, 7033 Glenn Highway, Cambridge, Ohio from 1-6 p.m. Registration is $10 and must be received by Monday, Nov. 5, by the Guernsey County office of OSU Extension in Old Washington, Ohio. Nov. 14: Ohio State University’s Fruit and Vegetable Safety Team will hold a workshop on preventing microbial contamination on fruit and vegetable farms. Food safety and Good Agricultural Practices, or GAPs, are the focus.  The program goes from 1-4 p.m. at Ohio State University Extension’s Mahoning County office, 490 S. Broad St., in Canfield, Ohio. KENTUCKY
Nov. 7-8: Kentucky Women in Agriculture will host their 13th annual conference at the Hilton Garden Inn in Louisville, Ky. The theme of this year’s conference is “Agriculture – Making Kentucky Proud.” Registration is $85 for the two-day conference ($65 for students), which includes all meals, Taste of Kentucky Proud event and membership dues for 2013.
