The annual meeting of the Indiana Shorthorn Breeders’ Assoc. was held recently in Indianapolis and the following officers were elected for the coming year: Lester Sigler, Elwood, president, and B. Hollis Hanson, Connersville, vice president. Directors are Max Pattinson, Marion, Durbin Budd and William Fenley, Greensburg, and Dave Garriott, Scottsburg.

Wilson Grain & Implement, Inc. of New Castle will hold its annual John Deere Day at the firm’s location on 403 Spring St. A lunch is served at noon, and farmers and their families are cordially invited to attend.

Frank E. Blacker, R. 1, Romney, Tippecanoe County, has won the 1957 state contour five-acre corn contest, sponsored by the Purdue University extension service and the Indiana Crop Improvement Assoc. Blackner harvested 184 bushels an acre from his five-acre plot.

Waynesville, Ohio, reported that in the past six weeks four horses in Warren County were stolen from two farms. Thanks to an Internet posse, the horses were returned safely to their owner. Three horses were discovered in Michigan and one, in Kentucky.
State agriculture statistician Ralph Gann is retiring after 16 years of managing the Indiana Agricultural Statistics Service, based at Purdue University.
