1958: Indiana farm sells two reserve Shorthorn champions

Spiceland’s winning parliamentary procedure team captured the Section III FFA competition held in Spiceland and will now go to the State FFA contest at Purdue University. Members of the team are Ray Wright, Charles Magee, Bill Gardner, Marion Lane Jr., Ron Murray, Dallas Thompson, Dan Swinford, Paul Nobbe, Ron Wilson, Rodney Hoover, Tom Coffman and Alan Swartz.

Public sale of Saul Wright property south of Edinburg, Ind., consisting of 54 head of Aberdeen Angus cattle and miscellaneous farm equipment – John L. Friedersdorf, Auctioneer, and Edward. C. Koehrn, Clerk.

Lynnwood Farms of Carmel, Ind., recently exhibited at the 18th National Polled Shorthorn Congress Sale the Reserve Champion Shorthorn Bull Lynnwood Crescent, and it was sold to W.N. Moore of Iowa Falls, Iowa, for $1,500; and the Reserve Champion Female Lynnwood Princess 3rd, being sold to Benson & Wheeler Farms of Mason, Ill.

A large barn fire on the Floyd Gish farm southwest of Camden burned to the ground. Among the implements burned were a tractor, disc, mower, buzz saw and other small tools. The fire spread to a nearby large barn, which housed cattle, but was brought under control by Camden firemen.

Doug Goodman of Hickman was recognized as the Outstanding Kentucky Young Farmer Member of the Year at the 30th Kentucky Young Farmer Convention in Paducah. Doug is a partner with his father and brothers in Goodman Farm, Inc., where they produced 2,488 acres of soybeans, 904 acres of corn and 80 acres of pasture last year.

Steve and Gail Schlatter of Woodburn, Ind., were recently selected as the 2003 Indiana farm Family of the Year. The Schlatters farm with their three sons and their wives, in running the hog and grain operation.
