Concurrent Holstein, Jersey futurities at Michigan Expo
By MELISSA HART
Michigan Correspondent

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The 28th annual Great Lakes Holstein Futurity and the Michigan Jersey Futurity took place concurrently July 18 at the Michigan State University Pavilion in East Lansing, during the Michigan Dairy Expo.

On one side of the ring, Ron Heffner of Maryland judged the Holsteins, while on the other side, brown cows were on parade as the Jersey Futurity was being evaluated by Jeff Sayles of Ontario. The futurities provided a perfect platform for recognition of a couple of breeders and a queen.

Before the show the Michigan Jersey Cattle Club crowned its 2013 Michigan Jersey queen, Jennifer Crabtree of Addison. Sandy Thompson was there as the junior advisor to make the presentation of the crown and sash.

The club recognized the recipient of the Master Jersey Breeder award; Patrick Wittenback of Ionia was presented with a plaque by Greg Palen of Ovid.
