National FFA Alumni auctions raise more than $100,000
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National FFA Alumni live and silent benefit auctions, held during the 79th National FFA Convention Oct. 25-28 in the Indiana Convention Center, brought proceeds of $117,711 that will be used to fund scholarships for FFA members.

Auction proceeds help to support 126 full and partial Washington Leadership Conference scholarships as well five $1,000 collegiate scholarships for students pursuing careers in agricultural education through the National FFA Scholarship Program. In addition, another $1,000 collegiate scholarship was awarded to an American FFA Degree recipient who was also an FFA Alumni member.

“More than 186 donors gave auction items to be sold for the scholarship program, and more than 1,198 packages were sold,” said National FFA Alumni Association Executive Director J. Frank Saldaña.

A big headliner this year was a 2007 Ford F-150 XLT, which sold for $29,000. The buyer was Monte Ladner from Mississippi, the new 2007 National FFA Alumni President.

“I am glad to support the FFA Alumni Association both by serving as president next year and by purchasing Ford’s auction donation,” Ladner said.

The auctioneer for the live auction was Robert Johnson, an agriculture instructor at Milton High School, Milton, Wisc.
