Chocolate, caffeine naps best way to spring forward

Daylight Saving Time, or whatever this is,  is both a blessing and a curse. When I used to live in Ohio I could drive to Indiana and get there 45 minutes before I started.
For a friend, it’s a curse.
He has never changed his watch or clocks to reflect changed time and counts backward, or something, to make appointments in whatever state wherever he happens to be.
When politicians call him seeking votes, he always asks them if they will change the time back like it used to be, whatever that was. If they say no he starts into a tirade of venomous vituperative verbal abuse until they hang up on him.
From that moment on they are on his hate list, which means cuss words will be attached to their name whenever he mentions them.
I do believe he would vote for a little yellow dog if the dog could answer “yes” to the time zone question.
The rest of us will lose an hour of time overnight this weekend and instead of springing forward, will yawn, stretch and have bloodshot eyes by mid-afternoon.
So this week’s recipe will help us stay wide awake since it has a good kick of coffee, and it’s a candy.
‘Keep Me Awake’ Fudge

3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
Dash of salt (1/8 teaspoon)
1 tablespoon Folgers Instant Coffee Crystals
1 teaspoon hot water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Melt the chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk and salt over low heat. Remove from heat.
Dissolve the coffee in hot water and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Stir this mixture into the chocolate mixture until nice and smooth.
Line an 8- or 9-inch square pan with waxed paper and spread the fudge mixture into the pan. Chill 2 hours, or until firm.
Put the chilled fudge on to a cutting board; remove waxed paper.
Cut the chocolate into squares and you’re ready to enjoy the kick in the pants the coffee fudge will give you.
Eat some of this every hour on the first full day of the time change and you’ll be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed whenever the boss walks by your office. Students can use this too to remain awake during classes.
This Keep Me Awake Fudge works two ways. If the caffeine in the candy won’t keep you awake, the fear of gaining a few pounds from eating so much should do the trick.
Eat as much of the fudge as you can – and then when you get home, take a nice nap.
