Grand Rapids Ohio Women in Ag conference celebrating 25 years

GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio — Registration is due March 9 for the 25th annual Women in Agriculture conference in Grand Rapids. The event takes place 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on March 23 at Nazareth Hall, State Road 65, along the Maumee River.

Keynote speaker will be Laura Daniels, farmer, dairy consultant and agriculture advocate from Cobb, Wis., who will be talking about "Using Baler Twine & Barn Lime to Live a Life with Purpose."

Daniels and her husband, Jarred Searls, raise two children on their Wisconsin dairy farm with 300 Jersey cows, 650 acres and six full-time employees. She serves as general manager of the farm.

She also consults in the areas of team building, employee management and dairy cattle nutrition and gives pro-ag and motivational speeches across the country. She is the founder and president of the Dairy Girl Network formed in 2013 as a national network of professional dairy women (DairyGirlNetwork.com).

The conference, hosted by the Women in Agriculture Committee and Ohio State University extension of Wood County, includes three breakout sessions from a choice of 13, a continental breakfast and a buffet lunch.

Among the small sessions are “Aging in Place, What Are My Options?” “Conservation Values in Leasing and Legacy Planning,” “USDA Programs You Can Use,” “2018 Grain Markets” and “Can Your Farm Supply What Consumers Want?” Among the additional topics are a local quilt trail, handling farm emergencies and handling the demands of family, farm and life.

A special session for FFA members is called “Becoming A Woman in Ag.”
