Views and opinions: Canadian singer Brownlee a treat you may not know

For those of you from Canada, especially British Columbia, you have already heard of Chad Brownlee. For everyone else, you’re in for a treat once you discover his music.

I have been busy studying this Canadian star’s music and career, and it looks as though there aren’t many awards from the Canadian and B.C. music organizations for which he hasn’t been nominated, including the British Columbia Country Music Assoc. Male Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Fans Choice Award, and Songwriter of the Year.

His musical career began in 2009 after a stint as a professional hockey player, with a series of albums and tour dates. His sounds like a pretty storied life up to this point; professional athlete, country music star. On top of that, this guy is somewhat of a philanthropist, donating much of his time to charitable causes in Canada and the United States.

So, having never met him or hung out at his house, or gone on the road with him, I can only speculate that this superman of a human being must be a pretty cool dude.

But if I base my opinion solely on the sound of his voice and the music he has produced so far, then yes indeed, he must be a pretty cool dude – not to mention talented beyond belief. His most recent hit “Forever’s Gotta Start Somewhere” is a classic combination of a rich, traditional country voice and a musical sound that resonates with a modern-day country crowd.

I went through his entire collection – at least what I could find on the beloved internet – and I must say, I liked nearly everything I listened to. That’s a little unusual for me, even when talking about some of the best in country music.

One other thing I will mention is that I like his choices of locations for his videos. Obviously, it’s beautiful Canadian countryside – not that I’m a big fan of music videos from a scenery perspective, but the videos are great, as is his music.

If I could ask one thing of him it would be, Chad, what say you drop that tour down a little closer to home here? Or maybe I just need to take a road trip to see our great neighbors to the north. Either way, it would be a show worth seeing, from an artist worth listening to.

Bluegrass Johnson comes from a long line of country music performers and enjoys a passion for the rhythm and melody. From the hills of Kentucky, he will offer his opinions on a variety of music. Readers with questions or comments may write to Johnson in care of this publication.
