LEBANON, Ohio — Looking to upgrade that saddle? Want to exchange riding apparel with another? Looking for someone who shares a love for a specific breed of horse?
The 23rd annual Great Tack Exchange in Lebanon, Ohio is the watering hole for experienced and novice horsemen alike. This event draws visitors and vendors from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Illinois. It is sponsored by the Warren County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council (OHC).
“There’s everything for every horse owner and any breed,” said Judy Picklesimer of the Ohio Horse Council of Warren County.
“There’s new and used tack, horse supplies, riding attire, feed and a lot more. This is a time many horsemen use to make contact with friends and neighbors to swap goods or simply exchange ideas.”
This year’s event will be Sunday, March 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Warren County Fairgrounds. Admission is just $1 and dogs are not permitted.
“We have a variety of organizations and individuals represented each year.
There are non-profit groups such as the Warren County Mounted Search Team, Bridge Riding For the Disabled, Serenity Horse Rescue, as well as horse breed organizations, individuals, 4-H clubs, dealers, various stables, trainers and vets.”
Two large barns at the Warren County Fairgrounds house this event, which attracts several thousand in that five-hour period.
Plenty of food booths will be on hand.
“When myself and two others started this event in 1985 we had just 20 vendors and we called it The Tack Sale,” Picklesimer said. “The next year we called it the Great Tack Exchange and made it a ritual of holding it the second Sunday in March. We now have 90 vendors annually.
“The Great Tack Exchange is a great place to shop for new and used horse items. It enables people to buy horse-related items at affordable prices while helping our organization fund their service activities.”
Proceeds from the Great Tack Exchange are used to help maintain the 30 miles of bridle trails at Caesar Creek State Park as well as supporting a Ride-a-Thon for the Bridge Riding for the Disabled each September and sponsoring classes at the Warren County Fair’s 4H Horse Show.
