Woodmore FFA announces scholarships

ELMORE, Ohio — The Woodmore FFA Alumni Association recently announced the award winners of the nearly $3,000 in scholarship funds presented during the Woodmore FFA’s annual banquet.

Sarah Depner, Woodmore’s 2007-2008 president, was selected to receive The Richard Heins Memorial Scholarship for $500 and The Paul Rothert Memorial Scholarship for $1000. Both of these scholarships require the recipient to major in a field of study related to agriculture. Depner will be attending Findley University and will pursue a double major in equestrian studies and pre-veterinary medicine.

Krista Hellwig, Woodmore’s 2007-2008 sentinel, was chosen to receive the other three scholarships. Hellwig was selected to receive The Dan Juergens Memorial Scholarship for $500; The Woodmore FFA Alumni Scholarship – also for $500 – both requiring an agricultural field of study; and finally, The Woodmore FFA Alumni Scholarship in Memory of Beth Roberts, also for $500. This final scholarship does not specify a field of study, but instead, is given to a student who embodies the same enthusiasm and dedication to the FFA program of the memorialized member. Hellwig will be attending The Ohio State University’s Agricultural Technical Institute her first two years and then transfer to the main campus to complete her degree in animal science.

Additionally, Hellwig was selected as the student who consistently delivers extra effort in support of the FFA program, with Woodmore’s 110 percent award. She received a certificate of recognition and a monetary check from the Fremont branch of AG Credit, ACA, and additionally was recognized with a plaque from her FFA chapter.
