Dana DeHaven June 5, 1937-Oct. 2, 2008
Dana Dean DeHaven, 71, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at his home following a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Delaware County, in Albany on June 5, 1937 to Herschell and Grace (Nibarger) DeHaven. Both parents preceded him in death, his father in 1984 and his mother in 1954. He graduated from DeSoto School in 1955. DeHaven moved to Randolph County in 1966. He was a dairy and grain farmer. He is survived by: his wife of 27 years , Mary Kay (Morgan) McDaniel DeHaven; two sisters, Elaine Shaw (husband, Wayne) of Medford, Oregon and Sharon Tomlin (husband, Ernie) of Muncie; two sons and two daughters, Michael of Lynn, Diane Slick (husband, Alan) of Lynn, Sherry Beshears of Winchester and Mark (wife, Liz) of Lynn; three step-children, Denise McDaniel Smith (husband, Doug) of Mays, Randall McDaniel (wife, Anita) of Mays and Kevin McDaniel (wife, Kelly) of Brownsburg; nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Mae Melvin, who died of cancer in 1979.
Dana was a member of First Church of Christ, Lynn since 1968; Lynn Lions Club; Randolph County Dairy Assoc.; Lynn Bowling Team from 1966-2005; Retired Director of Indiana State Dairy Assoc., serving 18 years, including two years as state vice-president and two years as state president; Former Indiana Young Farmers Assoc. including district director, state secretary, state vice-president and state president; former Lynn Young Farmers Assoc. for 38 years, previously president of 4-H Inc. for two years, active on Randolph County Sale Committee for 40 years and competed in many tractor pulls from 1950-1980.
The funeral service was on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at First Church of Christ, 206 W. Church St., Lynn, with Rev. Harry Holloway, brother-in-law, and Rev. Paul Nichols officiating. Burial was at the Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
