Pettisville FFA
hosts ag safety day

PETTISVILLE, Ohio — On Sept. 26, the Pettisville FFA held an ag safety day to demonstrate the dangers of farm machinery to students in grades K-6 plus the agriculture students. Members of Healthy Lifestyles Committee wanted to show the dangers of the harvest season. Tractors, a combine, a semi-truck and a livestock trailer were brought to the school.

The elementary and junior high students visited the different farm equipment and then questioned about some of the dangers. Dangers that were emphasized were as follows: the blind spots of the semi truck, the sharp blades, the debris that can be shot out of a combine, climbing up the ladder of the semi and falling, and getting caught in or under the large tires. Students from the kindergarten classes reported that they really enjoyed the day.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The National Corn Growers Association and the BASF Corp. have joined forces for the second year to award five $1,000 scholarships annually to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.

“Education of young growers is vital to the continued success of American agriculture,” said Tim Dolan, chairman of the NCGA’s Grower Services Action Team and a farmer from Winthrop, Minn. “Through this valuable program we are assisting tomorrow’s agricultural leaders to excel in a world of increased technological and scientific sophistication.”
