2009 Integrated Resource
Management books available

DENVER, Colo. — U.S. cattlemen are keeping better records than ever on the animals they’re raising. Helping in this effort for more than 20 years has been the Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Redbook from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). The 2009 version of the book is now available.

These pocket-size record books provide an effective way for cattlemen to keep better production records and enhance profitability of their operations. The Redbook provides more than 100 pages to record calving activity, herd health, pasture use and cattle inventory, plus an annual calendar and notes/address section.

The primary use of the IRM Redbook is to record calving information and daily production activities. The Redbook also offers special features such as body condition, scoring section, summary of death loss section, calving section and a cattle treatment record section, with Beef Quality Assurance national guidelines and proper injection technique information. Many cattlemen have found the Redbook helps them maintain records that establish eligibility for added value marketing programs.

Cost of the IRM Redbooks is $5.95 each, plus shipping. Customization is available on orders of 100 books or more at a reduced rate. For information, visit www.beefusa.org and information is also available from Grace Webb at 800-525-3085 or gwebb@beef.org

Cattle industry opens
nominations for annual award

DENVER, Colo. — The 19th annual Environmental Stewardship Award officially has opened its nomination season for 2009. The award has recognized the outstanding stewardship practices and conservation achievements of U.S. cattle producers for almost two decades.

Regional and national award winners are honored for their commitment to protecting the environment and improving fish and wildlife habitats while operating profitable cattle operations.

Nominations may be submitted by any organization, group or individual on behalf of a U.S. cattle producer. Established in 1991, the award is presented by the National Cattlemen’s Foundation in cooperation with Dow AgroSciences LLC, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Seven regional winners and one national winner are selected annually by a committee of representatives from universities, conservation organizations and federal and state agencies. The nominees compete for regional awards based on their state of residency, and these seven regional winners then compete for the national award. The national winner will be selected at the 2009 Cattle Industry Convention in Phoenix, Ariz.

The deadline for 2009 nomination packet is Feb. 25, 2009. Go to www. EnvironmentalStewardship.org to download a nomination packet or contact the National Cattlemen’s Foundation to request a copy of the application, at 303-694-0305.
