ILLINOIS
Aug. 27: Drainage Water Management Demonstration Day will take place at the Hume Community Center in Hume, Ill. beginning at 9 a.m. A field tour of the Starkey Farm will include drainage intensity, water management, subsurface bioreactor and submerged outlet flow. Sept. 14: Principles of Dairy Science will be offered by the University of Illinois  as an introductory class covering nutrition, reproduction, milk secretion, calf and heifer management, dairy records, business management, forages, facilities, genetics, and herd health. Lectures are recorded on CD (class on demand) with an Internet live class held during the 11 weeks of class on Monday or Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 pm CDT.  Enrollees can participate for credit (U of I tuition) or for non-credit with reduced tuition.  To review the class schedule, topics, and enrollment details, go to: http://online.ansci.uiuc.edu

INDIANA
Aug. 31: The Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indiana Corn Marketing Council will be co-sponsoring a tour of the Ohio River on the Belle of Louisville leaving Louisville, Ky. at 9 a.m. Go online to either www.indianasoybean.com or http://incorn.org to register for a chance to see the river and through the locks.

Sept. 3: A training workshop hosted by Purdue’s Department of Agronomy will take place at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE), near West Lafayette, Ind. Sept. 5-6: A draft horse workshop will take place at RX Acres in Brookston, Ind. Participants will be able to experience driving a team of Belgian horses in a farm setting and take part in a demonstration on collecting and breeding. Registration is $300 per participant.
