Biofuels campaign encourages students to “Ask Questions”
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Hot topics for Indiana’s college students include finding jobs, protecting the environment and supporting ways to reduce America’s dependence on foreign fuels through the development of homegrown energy.

One groundbreaking campaign underway on college campuses throughout Indiana is advancing these discussions to new levels.
Connecting with college students to talk about renewable energy is a young adult group called the “Ask Force” and its related “Ask Questions Please” social networking movement, sponsored by the Indiana corn and soybean farmers.

This campaign is a unique and informational outreach effort that focuses on answering college students’ questions about renewable energy, including ethanol and biodiesel.

The “Ask Force” is a team of twenty-somethings who are traveling to college campuses around the state of Indiana, answering questions about the benefits and realities of renewable energy.
“We are excited about the questions and dialogue this inventive campaign is generating,” said Mark Henderson, executive director of the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC). “This is campaign is aimed at educating, encouraging questions and correcting misconceptions about renewable energy, specifically ethanol and biodiesel, so people can reach their own informed conclusions.”

Indiana corn and soybean checkoff dollars are funding the campaign.

The “Ask Force” has so far visited the campuses of IUPUI, Butler University, Purdue University, Indiana University, the University of Indianapolis and Ball State University. The team plans to visit Ivy Tech Community College and Franklin College before the fall semester campaign concludes in December.

“We are finding that students around the state are very curious about renewable energy and its impact on the economy, food supplies and our environment,” said Henderson. “It is becoming increasingly apparent that students are pursuing and demanding significant answers and verifiable data about renewable energy and its sustainability. Our hope is that they will share this knowledge with others and keep the discussion ongoing about renewable energy.”
