Dick and Rex Detling win Red Gold Reichart Award
ELWOOD, Ind. — Red Gold, Inc. presented Dick and Rex Detling of Union City, Ohio, a plaque naming them the winner of the E.A. Reichart Quality Achievement Award, to honor them as Tomato Grower of the Year.

Detling Farms was chosen from a select group of nine master growers, picked from 54 growers for Red Gold. Dick and Rex also received their eighth Red Gold Master Grower award. Winners received specially designed sweaters, watches, attachés, jackets and year plates in recognition of their achievement in growing high-quality tomatoes, exhibiting industry leadership and professionalism.

The Detlings have excelled in stewardship practices on their farm, participate in the Red Gold IPM program and have had training on the benefits of using cover crops. This year’s production from Detling Farms account for nearly 14 million cans of Red Gold whole, diced, stewed and specialty tomato products.

Marx, Terlep join AGCO North America
BATAVIA, Ill. — AGCO announced that Jason Marx has been named vice president, Parts Division, North America for AGCO. Marx brings to AGCO a broad range of managerial experience, with an emphasis on corporate financial results and operational performance from DaimlerChrysler and most recently AlixPartners LLP, a global consulting firm.

His background includes an MBA from Brigham Young University and a Bachelor of Arts in finance from Utah State University. Marx will be based in Batavia, and assumes overall general management responsibility for the Parts Division in North America.

Jeff Terlep is the new director of sales with the Parts. Terlep joins AGCO after a 17-year career with the Ford Motor Co. He brings a wealth of knowledge about the dealer distribution network, coupled with fresh ideas for sales and marketing.

Terlep earned his Bachelor of Science in management at the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University.
Merritt and Butts to lead Ohio soybean organizations
WORTHINGTON, Ohio — Farmer-leaders of the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) and Ohio Soybean Assoc. (OSA) recently announced the promotions of Kirk B. Merritt and Jamie L. Butts. Merritt will serve as executive director of OSC and Butts has been promoted to executive director of OSA.

These promotions came following the announcement that Executive Director John Lumpe will be leaving to pursue other career opportunities. After 15 years of serving on the staff of OSC and OSA, Lumpe will be joining Farmer + Yoakam ad agency as the chief operating officer.

Merritt will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities and management of soybean checkoff programs. Most recently, he has served as director of international marketing and the director of outreach and programs for the Ohio Soybean Council Foundation.
Butts will lead the state and federal policy efforts and statewide membership program, as well as other educational and farmer outreach activities. She will also continue to serve her current position as communications director for OSC. Most recently Butts served as OSA’s director of legislative affairs.

Lumpe will serve as senior advisor to both organizations during the next year.

Five Ohioans receive state’s top conservation honor
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) awarded its highest honor to five individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the protection and enjoyment of the state’s natural resources.

Inducted into the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame were Dr. Jim Bissell from Cleveland, the late Robert Redett of Amlin, Professor James Rinier from Kent, Nelson “Bud” Talbott from Cleveland and Georgia Welles from Bowling Green.

The agency also presented its annual Cardinal Award for conservation achievement to Frank Phelps of Belle Center and Dick Sorg of Zanesville. The Director’s Environmental Achievement Award was awarded to The Sherwin-Williams Co. for its support of the department’s Recovery Conservation Corps program.
