Seymour’s St. Paul Lutheran tending parishioners for 170 years
SEYMOUR, Ind. — St. Paul Lutheran Church is a congregation of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). It is referred to as “Borchers,” since Rev. Henry Borchers, who served our congregation from 1857-81, advised and influenced a small group of German pioneer settlers that wanted to establish a congregation in the area.

Last year, we celebrated 170 years of life and ministry in this beautiful country setting in southern Indiana.

A portion of our campus consists of two churches and a pond. The founding fathers purchased 40 acres of land on Sept. 16, 1839. The red brick church was completed in the fall of 2008.

It is a beautiful facility, and our new house of worship, which conducts three services per week plus many weekly activities. Some of these activities include a preschool, a senior citizen gathering, several Bible study groups and youth and family ministries.

The other building is the old church, recently re-named Borchers Chapel, which was built in 1869. The Borchers Chapel was used as the main worship center until the fall of 2008; after that, it was moved from the original location to an area across the parking lot, near the cemetery. It is being restored for special worship events and remembrance of our heritage.

The Picnic Grove and the Parsonage are included in the campus, as well. The picnic grove is a fun place in the warmer months of the year, with Sunday School picnics, Mission Festival events and family reunions. The Parsonage is home to Pastor Steven and Michelle Wood, and their two children.

We look forward to many more years of growth and change as we seek continually to be faithful to God’s call to mission.

Please come visit us on the Internet at www.stpaul-borchers.org or call 812-522-7364 to learn more about our church. You can find us at 10792 North County Road 210 East in Seymour, Ind.
