Aug. 27: A variety of livestock, forage, and grazing topics will be presented at the 2013 Greener Pastures Field Day, presented by Purdue Extension and Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Dubois, Perry and Spencer Counties.  The program will be held at 5 p.m. CDT/6 p.m. EDT, at the Justin Roth Farm, 4585 West Eureka Road, Rockport, Ind. Sept. 4: “Bag to Bin: Equipment Modifications and Management for a Conservation Cropping System,” field day will take place on Shuter Sunset Farms one mile east of Frankton, Ind. and one-half mile south on CR 400 West. The day is designed for farmers, equipment dealers, and those who are interested in learning about equipment modifications and adjustments that work for strip-till, no-till and cover crop systems, including on-the-fly variable rate application (VRA) side-dress. Sept. 4-5: Two workshops will help landowners learn how to create outdoor businesses to generate extra income. Experts and business owners will talk about revenue potential, wildlife habitat management, and liability and legal considerations. The workshops will be held Sept. 4 on the property of Bob and Ellen Mulford in Versailles, Ind., and on Sept. 5 on the property of Rick and Debbie Schavietello in Waynetown, Ind. Deadline for the early registration fee of $35 is Aug. 27 for the Versailles workshop and Aug. 29 for the Waynetown workshop. Aug. 21-22: The 2013 Kentucky Grazing School will be held at the Woodford County Extension office, with hands-on activities taking place at the University of Kentucky’s C. Oran Little Research Center in Woodford County, Ky. The school will cover grazing information specific to Kentucky and will focus on summer and fall grazing options. Preregistration is necessary, and Aug. 14 is the deadline to register. Enrollment is limited to the first 45 registrants.
