For sale: baby calves, Holsteins and Guernseys, $15-$25 – Herschel Frame, Greensfork, Ind.
The large dairy barn on the farm belonging to Hoyt Vanderbeck, well-known auctioneer, located near Falmouth, Ind., was completely destroyed by fire. The farm operation is said to include one of the largest in the dairy business in this part of Indiana, with 125 head of Holstein cows and calves. Cattle were out of the barn when the fire began.
The winter supply of feed went with the blaze, but no farm machinery was lost, though the dairy parlor and its complete line of equipment were destroyed. Combustion is believed to have started the fire.
A 925-pound Black Angus steer owned by John and Gilman Stewart of Greensburg was named Grand Champion Steer of the Open Class Steer Show of the Kentucky State Fair at Louisville.

George Morton, former Indiana deputy commissioner of agriculture, has been appointed the new state director of the Farmers Home Administration by Secretary of Agriculture Clayton Yeutter, and was recommended to the post by Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.). He beat out 18 other candidates for the position.
Statistically, 100 percent of market hogs are being checked off, according to Jim Smith, National Pork Board director of market relations.
