Time to vote for entries in Fields-of-Corn Photo Contest
  CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — With entries now closed for the Fields-of-Corn Photo Contest, the National Corn Growers Assoc. invites everyone to help select the submissions that best tell the story of farming and harvesting field corn in America. Through this contest, NCGA captured more than 400 high-resolution photos of corn growth from seed to harvest and the families that grow it. During the month of December, log on and help pick the “pics” that will receive prizes.
 The Fields-of-Corn photo contest offers a $500 grand prize. Entries will compete for prizes with cash awards in five categories, including Farm Family Lifestyle, Farming Challenges, Growing Field Corn, Scenery/Landscape, and Still Life from the Farm.  Photos will be ranked by members of the public, who will be asked to select their favorites using online Facebook “Likes.” The Top 10 photos in each category will then be judged by an impartial panel of professionals in the fields of journalism, marketing, advertising and agriculture with no discrimination towards sex, race, gender or age. The panel’s decisions are final.

Ardent Mills offering videos
on USDA Market Reports

DENVER, Colo. — The flour-milling and ingredients company Ardent Mills has launched a new YouTube video series to provide customers with brief and insightful reviews of the latest USDA grain reports. The series, titled The Inside Scoop, is designed to help customers make sense of these reports to more effectively manage commodity risks in the grain markets. From all wheat classes to corn and soybeans, The Inside Scoop reviews production, stocks and consumption, along with developments affecting world trade in grains.
“At Ardent Mills, our goal is to help our customers understand, measure and mitigate their price risk exposure, reducing ‘unknowns’ to protect their business from price volatility,” says Dan Dye, CEO of Ardent Mills. “Ultimately, we want to help our customers achieve their financial goals.”
Each episode will run five to 10 minutes and will be posted online within one business day following the release of scheduled USDA reports.

Sumitomo acquires Asana
insecticide from DuPont

TOKYO, Japan and WILMINGTON, Del. – Sumitomo Chemical Company Ltd. and DuPont Crop Protection announced Dec. 3 that Sumitomo Chemical has acquired the DuPont Asana Insecticide business in the United States. Asana will be distributed through Valent U.S.A. Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical in the United States headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif. The transaction is subject to approvals from applicable regulatory authorities. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Asana Insecticide, active ingredient esfenvalerate, is a proven control tool for a wide range of insect pests in major field crops, vegetables, tree fruits and nuts. Asana has more than 50 crops on the product label. Its unique cottonseed oil-based formulation provides superior wash-off resistance and UV Light protection to enhance residual control of insect pests.
The active ingredient esfenvalerate, a resolved pyrethroid, was invented by Sumitomo Chemical, and it is currently commercialized in more than 60 countries. In the United States, Asana was developed and commercialized by DuPont, providing consistent control in U.S. crop production for many years.
Southern States named
2014 Feed Mill of the Year

ARLINGTON, Va., and MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Southern States Cooperative of Park City, Ky., has been named the 2014 Feed Mill of the Year. The annual award recognizes overall excellence in feed manufacturing operations and is sponsored by the American Feed Industry Association and Feedstuffs newspaper.
Since 1923, Southern States has been a farmer-owned cooperative providing a wide variety of agriculture products and home supplies to the agricultural community. With more than 1,200 retail stores in 23 states, Southern States is known as one of the nation’s largest agriculture supply companies, with more than 200,000 farmer-members.
This is the second time in three years that Southern States has received the Feed Mill of the Year award.
The Feed Mill of the Year award runner-up is Kent Nutrition Group located in Hagerstown, Md.
Kent has been in business for more than 85 years and manufactures commercial livestock feed through its Kent brand and country lifestyle and companion animal feed through its Blue Seal brand.
The 2015 Feed Mill of the Year program will be open for applications in the spring.
