50 years ago: Stockyards in Chicago hailing its centennial
 

1965: 50 years ago

Jeannine Ellsworth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ellsworth of Knightstown and a sophomore at Knightstown High School, was crowned Indiana Corn Queen at Purdue University during the Indiana 4-H Corn Jamboree.
Chicago Stockyards is 100 years old. The present 320-acre tract of land on which the market is located was purchased in 1865 from Congressman John Wentworth for $100,000, and was operating by Christmas in 1865.
Nels Ackerson, past 1964 National FFA president, will be the featured speaker at the annual Purdue Ag Night Banquet at Purdue Memorial Union ballroom. Ackerson is studying agricultural economics at Purdue and is the son of Mr.  and Mrs. Ralph Ackerson of Westfield.

The Ohio Livestock Coalition has filed a lawsuit against the Ohio EPA, claiming the agency’s recently released general National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit exceeds its authority and that many of the permit’s provisions would impose burdens on many livestock farmers not required of other NPDES permittees.
