1965: 50 years ago
Public auction of property of Odin Thompson, owner, farm location west of Glenwood, east of Gings, north of Rushville. Having rented my farm, selling the personal property consisting of: 1953 I.H.C. Super M tractor; 1961 I.H.C. 4-row planter; I.H.C. 2ME corn picker; John Deere harvester with both hay and corn heads; I.H.C. No. 45 baler; hog houses; cattle hay feeders; hog feeders; and much more – Hoyt Vandenbeck, Auctioneer, and N. Webb, Clerk.
At the annual Randolph County Farmers Achievement Banquet, trophy winners were Richard Sipe, high yield in 5-Acre Corn Club with 149.3 bushels; Bob Thompson Jr., livestock trophy; and Duane Sickles, gold medal winner in junior 5-Acre Corn Club with 136.6 bushels.

A farrowing barn and six sows, 60 pigs and 500-600 bales of straw were lost in a fire recently at the Ben Singer farm near Pennville.

Indiana turkey producers expect to raise 14.1 million turkeys in 1990. This would be 7 percent more turkeys than raised last year.
David Beam, Sabina, Ohio, was recently named one of the four top young farmers in the nation by the Jaycees. He was named Ohio Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Farmer last year, following in the footsteps of his late father, who won this award in 1961.

John Deere’s Waterloo Works completed the nation’s first factory-fill of B2 diesel, where U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced the first tractor to roll off the company’s assembly line, which was specifically designed to run on the 2 percent soy-based blend.
