ILLINOIS

Aug. 12: The annual DeKalb County (Ill.) Barn Tour will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. CT, this year showcasing barns in the Waterman-Shabbona, Ill., area.

The tour is a driving tour of barn sites hosted by the DeKalb Area Agricultural  Heritage Assoc. and the JF Glidden Homestead & Historical Center. Forinformation, follow DeKalbCountyBarnTour on Facebook or visit http://gliddenhomestead.org

Aug. 17: The University of Illinois’ Agronomy Day 2017 will begin at 7 a.m. at the Crop Sciences Research and Education Center South First Street Facility, 4202 S. 1st St., Savoy, Ill. This year’s event features a tour of the Energy Farm and presentations from faculty within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and the Department of Crop Sciences. Topics include pest, nutrient, and weed management strategies, drone data, economics, water quality, and more. College of ACES Dean Kimberlee Kidwell will speak during the noontime program.

Aug. 10-23: The Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indiana Corn Growers Assoc. “Shop Talks” are a series of meetings with farmers and members of the Indiana Congressional delegation during the August Congressional recess. This is the fourth year ISA and ICGA have sponsored Shop Talks. The events encourage farmers to be involved in the political process, as they are the best advocates for agriculture.

Aug. 15: The Indiana Farm Bureau is hosting U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly’s Farm Bill Listening Session in the Normandy Barn (second floor) on the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind., from 9-10:30 a.m. Attendees will need to pay for a ticket and parking fee to enter the Indiana State Fair, to gain access.

Aug. 18: Pro-Soil Ag Solutions hosts its annual Indiana Growers Field Day beginning at 8 a.m. at Ron Small Farms, 5505 S. Monroe School Road, Monroe City, Ind. 47557, which is about 12 miles southwest of Washington, Ind.

Aug. 15-17: The Iowa State seed conditioning and quality testing workshop is available in the pilot plant at the ISU Seed Science Center in Ames, Iowa. The remaining workshop is Seed Corn/Soybean Quality Testing.

Aug. 15: The Ohio Department of Agriculture will sponsor a collection for farmers wishing to dispose of unwanted pesticides from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the OSU Extension Putnam County Office (gated parking lot on east side of the building), 1206 E. 2nd St., Ottawa, Ohio. The pesticide collection and disposal service is free of charge.

No paint, antifreeze, solvents and household or non-farm pesticides will be accepted. To pre-register, or for details, contact ODA at 614-728-6987.

Aug. 18-20: The 54th Annual Tuscarawas Valley Pioneer Power Assoc. “Dover Steam Show” will be at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds on 259 Tuscarawas Ave. in Dover, Ohio. This year’s event features the Ford family of tractors. Steam traction engines, antique gas and diesel farm and garden tractors and more will be on display. The event will include food, arts and crafts, flea market and entertainment.

There will be a Sunday morning church service on Aug. 20. On Aug. 18, there will be a garden tractor pull at 6 p.m. On Aug. 19, there will be an antique tractor pull at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 with those age 12 and under free. Aug. 29-Oct. 26: University of Tennessee AgResearch plans field days at most of the 10 AgResearch and Education Centers in the state, offering farmers, ranchers, gardeners and the general public a chance to see research findings, learn from university and industry experts and network with peers.
