When God makes a promise he always comes through

Verses from Mama
By Sandra Sheridan

Acts 2:4 “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

When God makes a promise, He always keeps it. This was true in ages past, and it’s true today. Before returning to heaven, Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. This promised gift would equip them to be His witnesses starting in Jerusalem and reaching to the ends of the earth.
Acts 2 records the moment when God fulfilled that incredible promise.
After Jesus’ death and resurrection, He appeared to many people for 40 days, proving He was alive. During that time, He calmed His disciples’ fears, erased their doubts, and opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He commissioned them to be witnesses of all they had seen and heard, promising to send “power from on high” to help them carry out their mission.
Following His ascension, the disciples returned to Jerusalem to wait. Ten days later, they gathered together to celebrate the Jewish Festival of Pentecost – a feast that marked the first fruits of the wheat harvest and offered thanksgiving to God.
Then suddenly, everything changed.
A loud sound like the blowing of a violent wind filled the house where they were meeting. Imagine the believers’ astonishment as tongues of fire appeared, separating and resting on each one of them! Instantly, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Meanwhile, a crowd of devout Jews from every nation had gathered in Jerusalem for the feast. Hearing the noise, they rushed to see what was happening. To their amazement, each one heard the believers speaking in their own native language and dialect.
Questions rippled through the crowd: Aren’t these men from Galilee? How can they be speaking our languages and declaring the wonders of God? What can this mean?
Yet, some skeptics mocked, accusing them of drunkenness.
Then Peter stood up with boldness and preached the truth. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, he refuted the false claims and proclaimed that Jesus is Lord and Savior. He declared the powerful promise of God: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
That very day, about 3,000 people believed the message and were baptized!
What an incredible Pentecost – when God fulfilled His promise through the Holy Spirit and gathered the first fruits of the gospel harvest.
And the miracle didn’t end there. That same promise still stands today. Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved and receive the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
When God makes a promise, He always comes through. That’s something worth celebrating every day!
