Palmer amaranth, commonly known as pigweed, is currently considered the most troublesome and costly weed in U.S. soybean production. It has developed resistance to the widely used glyphosate and more recently, to a group of herbicides known as protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitors.
