By CELESTE BAUMGARTNER Ohio Correspondent MECHANICSBURG, Ohio — Pity the poor deer – or maybe not. Farmers complain about them chomping the corn, homeowners fuss about them dining on daylilies and everyone knows a deer auto collision story, but Clair Zimmerman has a different spin to the deer-damage story.
“I was mowing a pasture and I noticed one side of the mower running a little low,” Zimmerman said. “I raised it up and I’d picked up an antler that had been shed in the pasture. It had gone right into the tire.
“I read about how they destroy the crops and I thought this was one more example of unintended problems they had created,” said Zimmerman, who is a grain farmer.
He took the tire to a shop and had it patched (it held the second try) for $20. |
