By SUSAN MYKRANTZ Ohio Correspondent WOOSTER, Ohio — The Wayne County Farm Tour offers an inside look at the county’s farms and agribusinesses.
This year the tour is Saturday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p. m. and Sunday, Oct. 10 from 1-6 p.m.
The first stop is the Stan Carmony Family Dairy Farm, located at 8573 Canaan Center Road, Wooster. The 24-hour dairy uses an automated parlor.
The second stop is Shearer Equipment, located at 7762 Cleveland Road, Wooster. This John Deere dealership sells a variety of equipment as well as other farm-related items and supplies. The third stop is Hartzler Dairy and Ice Cream Shoppe, located at 5454 Cleveland Road, Wooster. This family agri-business produces milk under rigid guidelines and then processes that milk into ice cream and milk bottled in old style glass bottles.
The fourth stop is New Pittsburg Veterinary Clinic, located at 1436 W. Old Lincoln Way, Wooster, specializing in large animals - specifically dairy cattle.
The fifth stop is Dechant Farms and Excavating, 8733 Rice Hill Road, Burbank. The DeChant Farm is a unique crop and timber farm. They also have a number of restored antique tractors which will be on display. Dechant Excavating specializes service to the local agriculture industry.
The sixth stop is Tegtmeier Cropland, 5137 W. Easton Road, West Salem. Along with its grain operation, the Tegtmeiers business welcomes visitors for a corn maze and a U-pick pumpkin patch. The last stop is Town and Country Co-op, located at 40 Equity St., West Salem.
A farmer owned co-op serving local Wayne County farms with lime, fertilizer and ag chemicals.
