Hereford youth awarded scholarships
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — National Junior Hereford Assoc. (NJHA) members were awarded more than $26,000 in scholarships from the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Oct. 30, during HYFA’s Boots and Brew II fundraiser in Kansas City, Mo.

Colt Keffer, Crawfordsville, Ind., won one of the largest scholarships: the $5,000 Bill and Jo Ellard Scholarships from HYFA. 
Colt Keffer is a senior at Oklahoma State University majoring in animal science. At the 2010 Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), Colt was chosen the champion senior showman. He plans to attend auction school after graduation and pursue a career as an auctioneer.

Another $5,000 scholarship awarded was the Bob and Dolores Call Scholarship to Jake Metch, Afton, N.Y. Jake is a junior in civil engineering at Texas Tech University. Jake is currently the membership chairperson on the NJHA board. Jake is planning to pursue a career in engineering, possibly relating to water resources to continue to work with farmers and ranchers. Three $2,500 scholarships were awarded. Cameron Kolinski, Patrick Springs, Va., was given the Bob Kube Scholarship and Tamar Adcock, Assumption, Ill., was awarded the Whitehead Ranches/Rocking Chair Ranch Scholarship.  Brady Jensen, Courtland, Kan., was chosen the recipient of the Owen Family/Tennessee River Music Scholarship.

Cameron Kolinski is a senior at Ferrum College majoring in agriculture with a minor in education. Cameron is an active member of the Virginia Junior Hereford Association and served as the 2008 Virginia Hereford Queen. She plans to teach agriculture education and continue raising Herefords.

Tamar Adcock is a freshman at Kansas State University majoring in animal science and agricultural economics.

Brady Jensen is a senior at Pike Valley High School, Scandia, Kan. Brady is an active member of the Kansas Junior Polled Hereford Association and is currently a director. He plans to attend Butler Community College, El Dorado, Kan., and then transfer to a four-year institution. Brady was also awarded the $1,000 Gary Bishop Memorial Scholarship.
