Farmers elect 2 new directors to ISA board

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — In January 2011, two Indiana farmers will join the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) board of directors as first-time farmer-directors. Jeanette Merritt of Peru will represent District 1, which includes Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Elkhart, Fulton, Howard, Jasper, Kosciusko, La Porte, Lake, Marshall, Miami, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Tipton, Wabash and White counties.

Levi Huffman of Lafayette will represent District 3, which includes Clay, Daviess, Dubois, Fountain, Gibson, Greene, Knox, Martin, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Spencer, Sullivan, Tippecanoe, Vanderburgh, Vermillion, Vigo, Warren and Warrick counties.

While there were no contested races in any of Indiana’s four districts, each district did have current or returning candidates who will be reinstated for another three-year term on the ISA board during the January board meeting. Former director Jeff Jordan of Richmond will rejoin to represent District 2, which includes the counties of Adams, Allen, Blackford, Dekalb, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Huntington, Jay, La Grange, Madison, Noble, Randolph, Steuben, Wayne, Wells and Whitley.

Current directors to be reinstated are Kevin Wilson of Walton, in District 1; Darrel McGriff of Marion, in District 2; Fayte Brewer of Lafayette, in District 3; and Jim Cherry of Greenfield and Mark Nigh of Shelbyville, in District 4.

Officer team reelected by ICMC board

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Mike Shuter of Frankton was reelected president of the Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) at its November board of directors meeting. Shuter, a Madison County grain and livestock producer, has served on the ICMC board since 2001.

Also reelected were David Howell of Middletown as vice president, Gary Lamie of West Point as secretary and Dennis Maple of Greentown as treasurer.

NAMA elects Maass and other officers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The North American Millers’ Assoc. (NAMA) elected Paul Maass, president, Commercial Foods, ConAgra Foods as chair for the 2010-12 term.

Maass has been on the board since 2004. He served as the vice chair for the 2008-10 term and previously served as chair of the Finance/Budget Committee and Food Safety Committee.

Greg Schlafer, vice president and general manager, Bakery, Restaurant and Milling, General Mills, Inc. was elected vice chair. The following were elected to three-year terms on the Executive Committee: George Allard, vice president and general manager, Corn Dry Milling Division, Bunge North America; Karl Gerrand, senior vice president, Processing, Viterra, Inc.; John Gillcrist, chair, Bartlett Milling Cos.; and C.B. Knappen III, CEO, Knappen Milling Co.

Funk of The Soyfoods Council receives award

ANKENY, Iowa — For her work, Linda Funk, executive director for The Soyfoods Council, recently was honored with the award For Outstanding Contributions in Promoting Awareness of the Nutritional and Health Attributes of Soyfoods, at the ninth International Symposium on the Role of Soy in Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention and Treatment.

Funk developed The Soyfoods Council in 2000. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst, leader and facilitator to mainstream soy-based foods in the global marketplace. To further the Council’s mission, Ms. Funk works with soybean growers, food producers, food distributors, chefs, retailers, the media and consumers.
