Ade Stevens to lead Indiana soybean, corn organizations
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The farmer-leaders of Indiana’s soybean and corn organizations have named Jane Ade Stevens as their new executive director. Effective Dec. 21, Stevens now leads the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA), Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC), and Indiana Corn Growers Assoc. (ICGA).

“The boards recognize Jane’s dedication to our organizations and the farmers of our state as a true asset and are looking forward to starting 2011 under her leadership,” said Lynn Teel, ISA president and White County farmer.

Before moving into the executive director role, Stevens was on staff as the senior director of programming. Prior to her work with Indiana’s corn and soybean programs, she had her own public relations and association management services company, Stevens & Associates Inc., with her husband, Roger. The business was focused on agriculture, and she had the opportunity to work on projects for major agriculture commodity organizations, including beef, pork, dairy and sheep. She also worked for Indiana Farm Bureau, Elanco, and in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Department of Agriculture for Assistant Secretary Jim Moseley.

ICMC President Mike Shuter added, “Jane’s experience working with not only our state’s commodity and agricultural organizations, but also in Washington, D.C., makes her the right choice as we look to establish our organizations as a leading resource for Indiana agriculture.”

In addition to leading the state’s soybean and corn checkoff programs, Stevens will also manage the membership and policy activities of ISA and ICGA.
“Through her work with our organizations over the years, Jane understands the importance of a strong policy position and an active membership base,” said Gary Lamie, ICGA president and Tippecanoe County farmer. “Her understanding of how the legislative and regulatory worlds work will only serve to strengthen our efforts at the statehouse and in Washington, D.C.”

Stevens grew up on a grain and livestock farm in Tippecanoe County and graduated from Purdue University. She currently lives in Indianapolis, Ind. She and her husband have one son, Dan.

“I’m very grateful and excited to work with our state’s farmers to manage their checkoff funds to help increase the value and demand for agricultural products made from corn and soybeans,” said Ade Stevens.

She added that the coming year’s checkoff programs will focus on the development of the biodiesel and ethanol industries, new uses for corn and soybeans, livestock production, aquaculture, international market development, transportation issues and telling today’s farm story to the non-farm public.
ISA was formed Oct. 1, 2006 through the merger of the Indiana Soybean Board, the state’s soybean checkoff organization, and the Indiana Soybean Growers Assoc. - Indiana’s soybean membership and policy organization. ISA has a service agreement with the state’s two corn organizations – ICMC and ICGA – to manage their program activities.
