Lee Florea, prominent livestock breeder from Milton, Ind., is the new president of the Indiana Livestock Breeders Assoc., elected at the Purdue Agriculture Conference. Oren Wright of Greenwood is vice president and Henry Mayo from Purdue is secretary.
Friends and neighbors of Claude Alexander of near Charlottesville assembled to harvest his 40 acres of corn and 30 acres of soybeans, which he was unable to harvest because of a heart attack he suffered early in the fall.
William Jarrett of Spiceland Township in Henry County, was chosen as one of the six outstanding dairy science college seniors in the United States. He is a student at Purdue.
Lee Crawford of Milton is the new vice president of the Indiana Duroc Breeders Assoc.

Indiana has regained its title as the number-one popcorn producer in the nation. Iowa had been number one the last two years.
The USDA has extended Federal Japanese beetle quarantine restrictions to the previously non-regulated Indiana counties of: Clay, Dearborn, Delaware, Hendricks, Jackson, Jennings, Ohio and Washington.
Gene Paul of Tipton was reelected president of the Indiana Duroc Breeders Assoc. at its annual meeting. Robert Bennett of Linden was reelected vice president and Leo Craig of Lafayette will be serving his 27th year as secretary-treasurer. Directors elected were Bruce Lugar of Camby and Don Kremer of Monticello.
Clyde Shaffer of Albany was elected to the Evaluation Station Board, Lloyd McClellan of Clayton to the Livestock Breeders Assoc. Board and Charles Pierson of Monrovia as the State 4-H Leader representative.
The International Harvester Store in Harrison, Ohio, formerly operated by Arthur Weisbrodt, is now under new management. The dealership has been purchased by Don & Cliff Evans. Both Don and Cliff were born and raised on a farm and actively farm today.

Secretary of Agriculture Block announced the 1986 loan rates will be $2.40 for wheat and $1.92 for corn. Target prices have been frozen at the 1965 levels for 1986 ($4.38 for wheat and $3.03 for corn). Soybean program provisions have not been announced.
Final approval of the charters to consolidate 53 Federal Land Bank Associations and 30 Production Credit Associations in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee into one district-wide FLBA and one district-wide PCA has been received from the Farm Credit Administration, according to Lyle Spence, chief operating officer of the new FLBA and PCA for the East Central Indiana Region.

The price dropped 12 cents per pound at the past feeder pig auction held at the Southeastern Indiana Feeder Auction facilities. There were 2,403 feeder pigs sold; average price per cwt. was $58.18 and the average price per head was $39.58. Average weight for the sale was 68 pounds and the gross sale amount was $93,153.06.

USDA Secretary Dan Glickman announced that U.S. pork producers didn’t want their mandatory checkoff program anymore. By a 15,951-14,396 vote in a highly controversial referendum, U.S. pork producers decided to end the program.
“This outcome demonstrates that the pork checkoff program does not have the support of the producers it serves and therefore, cannot fulfill its stated purpose,” Glickman said.
