What classes are taught to FFA members? Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Animal Science, Wildlife & Natural Resources, Communications & Leadership, Ag Structures & Engineering, Livestock Science & Ag Work Study.
What contests does the chapter participate in? The Blanchester FFA participates in the following CDE events: Job Interview, Soil Judging, Parliamentary Procedure, Livestock Judging, Public Speaking, Ag Sales, Floriculture and Greenhand Quiz.
Does the chapter have an ag plot? No, but the Blanchester FFA is fortunate to have a large pole barn located on the school campus. In this barn, numerous members house their SAE projects. These members would otherwise not have the opportunity for a quality SAE. The pole barn housed 13 dairy cows, 120 chickens, and 4 lambs last year alone. This enabled approximately 30 students to participate in the real world, hands on learning that Supervised Agriculture Experiences provide.
Favorite community service project? Blanchester FFA has numerous community service projects which take place every year. One example is Cardboard City, where students develop an awareness for the homeless community by camping outside in a cardboard box for one night. Students collect donations which are then given to the locale homeless shelter. The chapter has consecutively risen over $1000 for this cause. Another project is the Habitat for Humanity Sheds. Every year the Ag Construction class builds several 8 x 8 sheds that are placed at Habitat for Humanity houses. This combines classroom instruction and community service. The last example is our Glenn Thomson Food Drive which takes place in December. The FFA collects, sorts and boxes canned food for local families around the holidays. This year over 300 boxes of food were donated to 150 families in need of assistance. These are just a few examples of the Blanchester FFA’s involvement in the community.
