Ohio church sign rings in winning $1,500 bid
NORTH ROBINSON, Ohio — It was “just like the old days” according to auctioneer Terry Agin when he conducted an auction on Feb. 6. He said the auction was great and well attended.

One of the more unusual items in the auction was a brown porcelain sign reading, “The Second Baptist Colored Church. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” In good condition it sold for $1,500.

Another great piece of Americana was a figural tin Yellow Kid sign measuring 9-inches by 20-inches and reading, “Say get the high toned 3 cent cigar inside. Brucker & Bogheim, Philadelphia.” In somewhat rough shape in places, it sold for $1,025.

Top lot honors were shared by a Vaseline opalescent hanging lamp with Parker frame and a two-piece Victorian bedroom set, each garnering $2,400. The walnut bedroom set featured a marble-topped dresser and a bed, both ornately decorated.

A Victor 3 phonograph reached $1,250, while a 15.5-inch Dent American cast-iron oil truck rolled to $1,850.

A 1 cent lighter fluid dispenser sold for $525 and could have been paired with the 15 cent cigarette marching that sold for $650. A red satin Gone With the Wind lamp reached $500.

Prices do not include the 10 percent buyer’s premium.
