Direct marketing of lamb and goat meat webinar March 29

By ANN ALLEN

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The idea of farmers selling produce directly to consumers is not new. There are farmers’ markets everywhere, and meat products are marketed directly to the consumer in a variety of ways.
In a response to this, Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, in association with the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University, plans a webinar on direct marketing of lamb and goat meat titled “A Field to Fork Concept.”

The sessions are set for March 29, April 5 and April 12 from 7-9 p.m. EST. Extension offices in Hendricks, Kosciusko, Monroe, Boone, Dearborn and Harrison counties will exclusively carry the program. Registrants should contact those offices for details, and pre-registration is required.

Subjects to be covered include identifying viable lamb and goat meat markets in the Louisville area, considering the possibilities of incorporating a new enterprise into an existing operation, producing a quality product through appropriate practices, growing out lambs and kids for the direct market, crossbreeding and marketing. A brochure on the program is available at www.ces.purdue.edu/anr/calendar.html
