Wind farm review meetings set for two Indiana counties

By ANN ALLEN
Indiana Correspondent

ROCHESTER, Ind. — Clinton County extension educator Curt Emanuel, who has seen numerous wind development companies approach landowners in his county, will provide background on wind farms at a March 29 meeting.
The meeting is set for 7-9 p.m. at the Maxinkuckee Odd Fellows Lodge, located at the intersection of 18 B and Pine Road in Marshall County. Directed primarily at residents of southern Marshall and northern Fulton counties, Emanuel will discuss the pros and cons of the wind industry to the community, the impact of a wind contract to a farm business and legal considerations when signing wind turbine contracts.

Following his discussion, Ralph Booker, Marshall County plan director, will share the county’s zoning ordinances and the process for a wind farm to be located in the county. A question-and-answer period will follow.

Purdue University extension believes a discussion would be beneficial for both those being asked to sign contracts and those living in the neighborhood of the proposed wind farms, and organized the meeting after businesses began contacting Marshall County landowners about contracts for wind farms.
Anyone planning to attend should call the Fulton County extension office at 574-223-3397 or e-mail Mark Kepler at mkepler@purdue.edu by March 28 to ensure adequate seating and handouts.
