Four Parkway FFA members receive state degrees COLUMBUS, Ohio — At the State Ohio FFA Convention May 5 and 6, four members of the Parkway FFA chapter were presented with their State FFA Degrees by the State FFA president Amy Jo Frost.
To receive their state degree, students must complete minimum requirements. Students must have already earned their Chapter degree, have completed at least one year in an agricultural education class, be a junior, senior, or high school graduate, have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and have an attendance record of 93 percent or better. Students also must have one of the following: gross earning of more than $3000, or have worked 1000 hours or more. Trevor Eischen, a senior, is the son of Tom and Mary Eischen. He earned his State FFA degree by working at McNeilan farms.
Josh Ford, a junior, is the son of Matt and Annie Ford. He earned his State FFA degree by working for Dues Landscaping and working at Hellwarth Farms, Inc. Caden Hellwarth, a junior, is the son of Garrett and Judy Hellwarth. He earned his State FFA degree by working on his family farm, Hellwarth Farms Inc. Devin Adams, a junior, is the son of Dave and Pat Adams. He earned his State FFA degree by working at Hellwarth Farms, Inc.
The 83rd annual Ohio FFA Convention was held May 5-6 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. In total, 11 members from the Parkway FFA chapter attended the convention.
Prior to the convention, students took online CDE tests. The grain merchandising team placed eighth in the state out of 26 teams. Olivia Houts placed 14th, Seth Houts placed 27th, and Caden Hellwarth placed 54th. Other participants were Tommy McDonough, Abby Evans, Tyler Matthews, Jack Roth, and Destinee Guggenbiller. The co-op team placed fifth of 39 teams. Seth Houts placed 29th, Caden Hellwarth placed 30th, and Abby Evans placed 43rd. Also participating was Tyler Matthews and Tommy McDonough. The farm business management team placed fifth as well, of 45 teams. Caden Hellwarth placed 15th, Seth Houts placed 25th, and Abby Evans placed 73rd. Also taking this test were Tommy McDonough, Kylie Snyder, Tyler Matthews, and Lindsey Walls. The ag engineering team placed seventh, with Devin Adams placing 15th, Caden Hellwarth placing 18th, Brandon Dellinger placing 29th, and Josh Ford placing 34th. The ag engineering team completed the rest of their contest on Thursday afternoon at the convention.
Throughout the two days, FFA members had the opportunity to hear many speakers, such as Chad Hymas, Trent McKnight, Rick Metzger, and Drew Hastings. On Thursday, the chapter received recognition for donating to Children’s Hospital and CROP/Church World Services organizations.
Ohio 4-H youth honored at the awards banquet COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sixty-one outstanding 4-H youth were honored on June 8 at the 2011 Achievement Awards and Scholarship banquet held at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center at The Ohio State University. Awards and scholarships valued over $92,000 were awarded to youth. Mikayla Conrad and Becky Cooley have been chosen to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin this fall sponsored by The Dairy Farmers of America Mideast Council and COBA/Select Sires, Inc. McKinley Roll and Nicole Williams have been chosen to attend Ohio Dairy Goat Conference in Columbus, Ohio sponsored by the Ohio Dairy Goat Assoc. Both winners were selected based on their record of achievement in the area of dairy.
Robert Wolfe and Brock Wolford are winners of the Ohio Township Assoc. Local Government Award and were selected based on the demonstrated impact a local government activity has on a community, township or county. Ben Hisey and Hannah Slykerman were selected to participate on the State Junior Fair Board. The State Junior Fair Board is comprised of representatives from several different youth organizations in Ohio. State Junior Fair Board members are expected to help strengthen and coordinate junior fair activities during the Ohio State Fair.
Rebekah Abel, Emily Burns, Kelsey Brown, Rebecca Chadwell, Caitlyn Colvin, Mikayla Conrad, Landon Gibbs, Marah Harper, Ben Hisey, Cheyenne Jepsen, Emily Johnson, Kayte Lawrence, Lexy Mitchell, Autumn Miller, Alexis Moser, Lindsey Oates, Coltin Osborne, Jesse Parker, Tori Peters, McKinley Roll, Will Slabaugh, Mallory Spring, Caleb Westfall, Heather Wilson and Robert Wolfe all earned Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards and will travel to Atlanta, Georgia this fall to represent Ohio at the National 4-H Congress. These exceptional youth will join other 4-H members from across the nation to learn and practice citizenship, leadership and service skills. To earn this honor, these youth competed against over 350 4-H members, between the ages of 14 and 18, who completed an extensive application listing their accomplishments in: 4-H project work, 4-H participation, major 4-H honors, 4-H community service and citizenship, 4-H leadership and non 4-H experiences in their school, church and community.
Ohio 4-H academic scholarships will be awarded to Sara Boyle, Erica Clouse, Kaley Core, Alyssa Crock, Christine Dubler, Emily Dudash, Keith Elsass, Clint Fleshman, Sarah Finney, Nicholas Fisher, Amy Jo Frost, Lore Lee Fuhrmann, Anna Gibbons, Eileen Gress, Alyssa Grolle, Amanda Haines, Katie Hatcher, Andrea Hershey, Courtney Jarman, Rachel Kessie, Alyssa Kitchen, Melissa Kolb, Trey Miller, Hannah Slykerman, Aaron Sollars, Lydia Ulry, Katherine Wenner, Caleb Westfall, Christy Wildermuth, Spencer Williams, Mitch Wilson, Nick Wolford and Kelsey Zbierajewski for their outstanding achievement in completing their 4-H goals, becoming self-directed, productive and educated members of society.
The scholarships are made possible by donors who recall how 4-H made a difference in their lives and want to provide a gateway to higher education for Ohio youth.
There are more than 330,000 youth in more than 14,000 clubs led by over 22,000 volunteers involved in the Ohio 4-H program.
4-H offers a variety of hands-on educational experiences to diverse audiences through community clubs, school enrichment, after-school programming, international experiences and more. |
