Hot temperatures in broiler houses and other animal shelters can be reduced 5-15 degrees if the roofing on these buildings is painted or whitewashed with white paint, according to A.C. Dale, Purdue University agricultural engineer.
According to a letter received from the state veterinarian’s office, it is absolutely necessary for all exhibitors of cattle, swine and sheep to have an official health certificate issued and signed by a licensed accredited veterinarian before the livestock are unloaded at this year’s fairs.

A new crystalline fructose sweetener was developed by Staley Continental, Inc. of Illinois. This breakthrough could eventually result in the annual use of another 250 million bushels of corn to produce the crystalline fructose sweetener.

Fire destroyed a 90-foot grain processing building at the Morristown Grain Co. in Morristown, Ind. The cause and damage estimates have not been determined at this time. The structure was used as an incoming and outgoing handling house rather than for storage, said the company owner Bill Smith.

The 69th annual Indiana Farm Management Tour was held in Huntington and Whitley counties. Farms included on the tour were: Chris Geiger Farm, Wells County; Dennis Farms, Huntington County; Steven Sickafood Family Farm, Whitley County; Cormany Family Farms, Whitley County; and Shady Grove Farms, Inc., Whitley County.

Winds of up to 70 mph played havoc with various cornfields, uprooting enormous trees and flattening cornstalks just as they were beginning to tassel in rural Milton and Cambridge City, small towns in east-central Indiana.
