Angus Foundation Golf Tourny raises funds for youth HARRISBURG, Pa. — Tournament proceeds will benefit the Vision of Value: Campaign for Angus, which aims to raise $11 million by the end of this year.
More than 50 Angus enthusiasts of all ages helped raise $10,640 for education, youth and research at the 11th annual Angus Foundation Golf Tournament, July 12 at the Felicita Golf Course in Harrisburg, Pa. The money raised will contribute to the Foundation’s first capital campaign, Vision of Value: Campaign for Angus, which aims to raise $11 million by Dec. 31, 2011. Golf tournament winners this year in Flight A included Tim Randolph, Fishersville, Va.; Dick Rogen, Brandon, S.D.; Jeff Creamer, Montrose, Colo.; and Brandon Creamer, Montrose, Colo. Flight B winners were Dereck Washam, Pierce City, Mo.; Cody Washam, Pierce City, Mo.; and Rick Taylor, Lavaca, Ark. Flight C winners included Bruce Stertzbach, Louisville, Ohio; Justin Adcock, Moweaqua, Ill.; Billy Widerman, Good Hope, Ill.; and Scott Anderson, Chrisman, Ill.

New junior Angus board members selected HARRIBURG, Pa. — The 2011-2012 National Junior Angus Association Board of Directors was announced Friday evening, July 15, 2011, during closing ceremonies at the 2011 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Harrisburg, Pa.
Voting delegates selected six candidates to join the board, including: Megan Ahearn, Wills Point, Texas; Meghan Blythe, White City, Kan.; Jennifer Ewing, Rushville, Ill.; Kelli Retallick, Glen Haven, Wis.; JanLee Rowlett, Hurricane Mills, Tenn.; and Sally Yon, Ridge Spring, S.C.
From the Farm World readership area, Ewing is a fourth-generation Angus breeder and is the daughter of Eric and Stephanie Ewing. She has been involved in the NJAA and Illinois Junior Angus Association for more than 10 years. Ewing recently obtained her associate degree from Lincoln Land Community College and will attend the University of Illinois in the fall to pursue a degree in agricultural and consumer economics with hopes of becoming a lawyer.
Also, Rowlett has been involved in the NJAA and Tennessee Junior Angus Association for 12 years and is currently serving on the 2012 National Junior Angus Show Planning Committee. She is the daughter of Buddy and Kelley Rowlett and will be entering her junior year this fall at Oklahoma State University with a degree in animal sciences and a minor in agricultural economics. Junior Board members entering their second year were elected to officer positions - Lindsey Grimes, Hillsboro, Ohio, was named Foundation director and Garrett Knebel, Winamac, Ind., was named leadership director.
Amanda-Clearcreek FFA hosts annual banquet AMANDA, Ohio — On Saturday, May 14, the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA chapter held its annual awards banquet at 4 p.m. The banquet had over 400 members, parents and guests present. The awards banquet started off with a potluck dinner and with a showing of the last year’s banquet’s slide show. After that, former State FFA President Amy Jo Frost was the guest speaker. She spoke on opportunities and choices. Finally, the awards banquet started. There were a lot of achievements our chapter members that were being recognized. Many members received awards for their SAE projects, contests awards, and their overall participation in the FFA. Since last year’s banquet, our chapter has placed fiftth in the nation with our Agricultural Communications Career Development Event (CDE) team, placed first at the regional level with our Environmental and Natural Resources CDE team, and placed first at state with our Nature Interpretation CDE team and our Agricultural Issues Forum CDE team. The Ag. Issues Forum team will be representing Ohio by competing at nationals this fall. Other award winners include: Star Greenhand Award - Katerina Sharp, Rachel Stoneburner, Katie Krile and Jacquelyn Gibson; Outstanding Sophomore - Nick Brumfield; Outstanding Junior - Sierra Jepsen; Outstanding Senior - Aaron Miller; Made for Excellence Award - Allyson Davis, Rachel Stoneburner, and Carrie Stoneburner; Ohio Leadership Camp Award - Emily Cordle and Caitlin Robinson; Memorial Award - John Miller and Sierra Jepsen and Top Fundraiser Award - Nate Seitz.
The chapter had two state-winning CDE teams, three teams that placed second in the state and one that placed third.
The chapter had five members place in the top four in the state with proficiency awards, with Allyson Davis winning in the area of Environmental Science and Natural Resources. The chapter also had two members elected to be State FFA Officers, Sierra Jepsen as District 7 President and Aaron Miller as State FFA President. |
