Seed Consultants adds two seedsmen in Midwest SLAUGHTERS, Ky. — Seed Consultants, Inc. welcomes Brandon Higdon as a new seedsman in western Kentucky. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Murray State University. He majored in agriculture business and minored in Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
He brings a broad background of agriculture experience to SCI. Higdon is co-owner of the family business, H&H Ag Enterprise, LLC, in Slaughters. The family farm raises corn, soybeans, tobacco and beef cattle. He also has eight years experience at a retail cooperative supplying farmers seed, crop protection materials and fertilizer.
Seed Consultants is also pleased to announce that Lance Weaver has been named an area seedsman in Ohio. In his new position he will cover Coshocton, Holmes, Knox, Muskingum, Morrow, Marion and Tuscarawas counties.
Raised near Coshocton, Weaver has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in business administration, from Franklin University in Columbus. He recently completed the Certified Crop Advisor training. Weaver has been a part of the Seed Consultants team since 2008. Farm Credit to elect five directors this fall LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Eleven farmers have been nominated to fill five board of director positions at Farm Credit Services of Mid-America (FCS). Ballots will be mailed in mid-September to the cooperative’s 76,000-plus voting stockholders. They will have through mid-October to cast their ballots.
More than 15,000 customers attend one of the association’s Customer Appreciation Events that are held throughout the summer. The candidates generally attend and have the opportunity to meet with other customers. Board terms are four years and one position per state is up for election each year. This year, a fifth position, with a two-year term, is on the ballot due to a vacancy left by FCS Director Matt Walther, who was elected to the AgriBank Farm Credit Bank’s board earlier this year.
On the same ballot, stockholders will elect members to the 2012 FCS Nominating Committee. This committee is comprised of 20 members, five from each state the association serves. Representatives will meet next June to select candidates for the 2012 elected positions.

Hill of ADM Alliance Nutrition and Paul Phillips of Maxi-Lift/Southwest Agri-Plastics have been named the American Feed Industry Assoc. (AFIA) 2011 Members of the Year. The award is given to an individual who exhibited amazing support in helping the AFIA achieve its goals and objectives over the previous year.
Hill is manager of companion animal nutrition with ADM, with a background in dry land and irrigated crop production and livestock production. He has served on the AFIA Pet Food Committee since 2009 and served as chair this last year.
He spearheaded the effort to review, renew and publish an updated version of Salmonella Control Guidelines.
Phillips is executive vice president of Maxi-Lift and vice president of marketing for Southwest Agri-Plastics. Over the past several years he has been a strong advocate for the AFIA Equipment Manufacturers Committee’s (EMC) Scholarship Fund. While serving on the AFIA board and Executive Committee, he served as chair of the EMC. He also serves on the Safe Feed/Safe Food Board-level Advisory Task Force.
Zimmer, seed leader, joins Beck’s Hybrids ATLANTA, Ind. — Beck’s Hybrids announces that Jim Zimmer, seed industry leader, has joined Beck’s Hybrids acting in an advisory role. He will serve by focusing on the strategic development of Beck’s Hybrid’s growing business.
Zimmer most recently served as the CEO of Channel Bio Corp. He brings to Beck’s more than 20 years of seed industry experience, including serving as the vice president of Monsanto’s U.S. Branded Business. While at Monsanto, he held various sales, marketing and business unit leadership roles within Monsanto’s U.S. commercial organization.
Zimmer left the seed industry in early 2010 to pursue his other passions of real estate and farming; however, Beck’s found a way to let him continue to live that dream, while still being a part of Beck’s exciting growth.
Robinson joins Koenig Equip. sales staff ROSSVILLE Ind. — Koenig Equipment is proud to announce the addition of Jim Robinson to its agricultural equipment sales staff working out of Rossville.
He has extensive knowledge of Case IH equipment and how it functions. He has 18 years of experience working for Case IH in product engineering and calling on dealers as part of their field staff.
Robinson has an additional nine years’ experience selling agriculture equipment as a dealership sales representative. He will be available to offer a broad selection of Case IH agricultural equipment to the Rossville customer base and to help customers mechanize their operation in a timely cost-effective manner.
Blome joins Bayeras president/CEO RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Bayer CropScience announced Jim Blome has been named as president/CEO and head of Crop Protection for the North American region, effective July 1. Blome succeeds Bill Buckner, who will retire at the end of the year.
Blome joins Bayer CropScience from Valent U.S.A. Corp., which is wholly owned by Sumitomo Chemical Co., where he most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer. With more than 25 years of leadership experience in agriculture, Blome has held management roles at companies such as Agriliance LLC, FMC Corp., Agtrol International, Griffin Corp. and Nufarm Ltd.
Buckner is still supporting Blome in his transition during the summer months and focusing on completing his term as chair of the CropLife America board. Buckner joined Bayer in 1993. |
