25 years ago Midwest farmers’ cornucopia of corn may result in amber waves of grain flooding both the marketplace and storage facilities this fall. Reasons for shortage are: glut in grain production, carryover of stocks from previous years’ harvest and export markets are sagging and the government’s support price for grain this year, stated Steve Callahan, director of marketing services for Kentucky’s agriculture department.
