A large barn on the Nelson Curry Farm located east of Liberty was destroyed by fire. The contents, including more than 100 head of hogs, 3,400 bales of hay and 2,000 bales of straw, were lost.
The Randolph-Wayne counties’ 4-H and FFA soils judging contest was held at the Bill Botkin Farm west of Lynn. County winners were from Union Township, with a team score of 710 points out of 945, Duane Hunt, Allen Hall, Buddy Lester and Jim Reese, alternate.
Three Carroll County farm families are hosting a young Scottish farmer, John Arbuckle, at their homes for three weeks. He is a guest of the Carroll High School FFA. Host families are Robert Ayers, William Evans and Kenneth Orem.

Tobacco growers in the Olean-Cross Plains-Friendship area suffered a financial setback when an unusual hailstorm riddled leaf tobacco waiting to be harvested. It is estimated that about 85 percent of the crop in those areas struck by the ice pellets was lost.

Chris Hurt, a Purdue University ag economist, predicts soybean prices will be $5.10-$5.20 by late fall and corn, in the $2.10-$2.14 range.
