Miami East FFA Alumni awards scholarships CASSTOWN, Ohio — The Miami East FFA Alumni Chapter recently recognized graduates of Miami East High School that had been enrolled in agricultural education and members of the FFA chapter. In order to qualify for the scholarship, the applicants completed an essay on “The Benefits of Agricultural Education” and been active in the FFA Chapter for at least one year. Each recipient received a cash scholarship to be used for their further education. Reed Pyers is the son of Kevin and Lori Pyers. During his years of FFA he participated in fruit sales, Dairy Food Judging, and Ag Day. He plans on attending the United State Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Rick Thimmes is the son of Robert and Kim Thimmes. His FFA involvement consisted of being a chapter officer, coordinating the weekly tutoring program, and the Food Science contest. He plans on attending Hocking College and majoring in Natural Resources Law and Animal Management.
Brian Fincel is the son of Neil and Kim Teaford. Brian was only a one year member of FFA and participated in fruit sales and the Cooperatives Test.
He plans on attending the University of Northwestern in Lima and major in Diesel Mechanics.
David Long is the son of Mark and DeAnn Long. David has attended National and State FFA Conventions, FFA Camp, and competed in General Livestock Judging. He plans on attending Ttiffin University and major in business.
Corey Rindler is the son of Mike and Natalie Rindler. Corey will be attending Capital University and major in music technology. He was a member of an FFA that placed in the Top 5 in the state in three of the four years he was in FFA. Corey was very successful in Food Science and Urban Soils Judging.
Victoria Kinney is the daughter of Robert and Lora Kinney. She will be attending Ohio University in secondary education. She served as a chapter officer, public speaking, and Food Science. Kyle Roeth is the son of Mark and Paula Roeth.
He will be attending Ashland University and major in business. He served as a chapter officer and earned his State FFA Degree because of his strong Supervised Agriculture Experience. Kaylee Schaefer is the daughter of Joy Schaefer and Curt Schaefer. She will be attending Kent State and major in Fashion Design. She earned her State FFA Degree because of her Supervised Agriculture Experience, mum sales, and involvement in the job interview contest.
The Miami East FFA Alumni was able to provide these scholarship recipients with monies because of the generous donations and support of community members through such projects as the Longaberger Basket Bingo in February and the Silent Auction at the Chapter Banquet in March.
Alexander FFA attends Ohio COLT Conference ALBANY, Ohio — The Alexander FFA officers attended the Colt Conference, on Sept 7.
The keynote speaker this year was Andrew McCrea who discussed the importance of learning the special qualities of each member in the chapter so that we could capitalize on each person’s skills. The officer team learned team building skills, along with leadership skills that they will come back and use with their chapter. The team includes President Jacob Smith, Vice President Jed Anderson, Treasurer Austin Crabtree, Secretary Lindsey Petty, Sentinel Lyman Kennedy, Reporter Shelby Ervin and Committee Chairs Kaitlin Mullins, Casey Davis and Jessica Jakubiec. |
