RFA elects new leadership for 2013
OMAHA, Neb. — At its annual membership meeting, the Renewable Fuels Assoc. (RFA) announced new officers of the board of directors. The RFA elected Neill McKinstray, president of the Ethanol Division, The Andersons, Inc. as chair.
He previously served as the vice chair for two terms, and will be succeeding Chuck Woodside, general manager of farmer-owned KAAPA Ethanol. Woodside served as chair for two terms. Joining McKinstray as elected officers of the association are: Vice Chair Randall J. Doyal, CEO of Al-Corn Clean Fuel in Claremont, Minn.; Treasurer Walter Wendland, CEO of Golden Grain Energy in Mason City, Iowa; Secretary Mick Henderson, general manager of Commonwealth Agri-Energy in Hopkinsville, Ky.; and President Bob Dinneen, CEO of RFA, Washington, D.C.
Kentucky Farm Bureau picks finalists for Farmer of Year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Farm Bureau has chosen two finalists for 2012 Farmer of the Year, and the winner will be announced next month.
The finalists are Stephen Bailey of Mercer County and Scott Travis of Spencer County. Bailey has been farming for 38 years and raises cattle, corn, soybeans, alfalfa, mixed hay and wheat. Travis is a 27-year veteran of farming and raises cattle, tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, pumpkins and gourds.
The Farmer of the Year will be announced at the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 2012 annual meeting Dec. 7 in Louisville. The winner will receive $1,000 from the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and will represent Kentucky in regional competition next fall in Georgia.
Crop insurance agent helps state Legislative Committee
WARSAW, Ind. — Goshert Insurance Agency’s Robert Walmer, a Certified Federal Crop Insurance Agent and Agent Manager, was called to appear before the Indiana joint Senate/House Interim Study Committee on Agriculture Sept. 26 to explain crop insurance and answer questions on how it relates to farm real estate values and taxes.
He appeared along with Dr. Larry DeBoer a Purdue University expert on farmland real estate tax methodologies; Indiana Farm Bureau’s (IFB) Katrina Hall, a tax and local government specialist; and Don Villowock IFB president. Walmer’s son, Grant, went with him and was able to observe the state government at work during the half-day hearing. |
