An open house was held at the new egg factory in Wilkinson owned by Tom and Jim Boese, who own and operate the Shirley Feed Mill. Currently the factory has 1,340 seven-month-old chicks and 1,000 15-week-old chicks that are fed and watered automatically. Sam Brandenburg, Southport, lost 50 dairy cattle in a fire of undetermined origin that razed his huge barn. A new tractor, milking machines, baled hay and silage destroyed made a total loss of more than $50,000.
40 years ago Nine sows and a Black Angus calf, found last Sunday afternoon on the John Hackleman farm in Posey Township in Fayette County, were to be picked up by the owner, A.J. Fairchild, operator of the sale barn north of Spiceland in Henry County.
A total of 467 feeder pigs were sold at the Muscatatuck Valley Feeder Auction Assoc. facilities located at North Vernon. The feeders averaged 60.8 pounds and brought $60.77 per cwt. for a total of $34.10 per head. The gross sale price was $15,926.34. The Village Inn of Milroy, Ind., dinner specials: Monday-Saturday, Sirloin Butt $2.49, Strip $2.99, 16-ounce T-bone $3.99; Friday and Saturday evenings, Fried Chicken Dinner, $1.69; and Sunday morning, Sausage, Biscuits & Gravy, 75 cents.
